Visiting Jasper Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre in Spring

Visiting the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre in Jasper National Park during spring offers a unique opportunity to experience the Canadian Rockies as they transition from winter to summer. The Centre is open from May 3 to October 13, 2025, with operating hours varying throughout the season.

May – June: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
July – August: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
September – October: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The Discovery Centre serves as the starting point for several key attractions.
Columbia Icefield Adventure: Embark on a 2.5- to 3-hour tour that includes a ride on the Ice Explorer, a massive all-terrain vehicle designed for glacial travel, allowing visitors to step onto the ancient ice of the Athabasca Glacier.
Columbia Icefield Skywalk: Experience a glass-floored observation platform extending 280 meters above the Sunwapta Valley, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Dining options at the Centre include the Altitude Restaurant, serving breakfast from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM and dinner from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM, and the Chalet, a casual self-serve dining area with varying hours throughout the season.

Spring Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre visitors can also enjoy educational exhibits detailing the formation of the icefield, the surrounding glacial environment, and the importance of preserving these natural landscapes.
